A public service announcement showing Simon Cowell describing the dangers of leaving dogs inside cars will be re-aired after an American Idol audition day was marred by animal cruelty this week.

Quincy Vanderbilt, 24, received a misdemeanour summons after his terrier died due to being left alone in a vehicle for nine hours in Denver.

Show judge Cowell had previously warned against leaving dogs alone in cars in a feature for PETA, which originally aired last year. The animal rights organisation has now rushed the video back out for screening on Denver's Fox affiliate KDVR, which airs Idol.

Speaking on the TV spot (http://www.petatv.com/tvpopup/GetVideo.asp?video=simon_cowell_peta), the music mogul explains: "Far be it from me to be critical, but I find it really appalling that this year, thousands of dogs will die from heatstroke inside parked cars. Never, ever leave your dog inside a parked car. Your dog idolises you. In warm weather, keep him safe at home."

PETA's Vice President Daphna Nachminovitch commented: "Simon would be shocked to know that this incident happened during auditions for his own show. Even on days that are merely warm, it's better to be safe than sorry. Always plan to leave your animal companions at home in safe temperatures."

I first saw a teaser for NBC’s Kings in December of 2008. I was suffering from severe LOST withdrawal amidst perusing the deepest depths of the internet for a new show or two to excite me in the time being. This teaser I saw could hardly even be classified as a teaser – it was roughly ten ominous seconds of an orange flag waving across the screen. On this flag was a butterfly. Later I’d discover that this was the flag of mighty Gilboa, the same flag that embodied the spiritual revelation that King Silas (Ian McShane) experiences in the beginning of the show. On this teaser there was no premiere date. In fact, there was no information of any kind. All I distinctly remember it saying was “Follow the butterfly.” I shrugged and continued my search for new shows, quickly forgetting what I had just witnessed. A few months later Kings would air its pilot and receive critical acclaim. But I had no idea it was on. Nor did anyone else.

Forgive the ridiculous analogy, but NBC treated this new unique show like an ugly step sister. It was doomed to fail from the start. Despite everything that made it such an interesting television experience, it never had any hope. It was marketed to the completely wrong audience (it wasn’t actually marketed much at all) at a horrific time (the pilot aired in March). But all of this is beside the point. NBC failed miserably, but in their failures another network has the opportunity to prosper off this incredible show. Here are five reasons why it deserves a fresh start with a company that will treat it with the proper care:

EXCLUSIVE: AEG is right now trying to auction off to Hollywood that concert film of the Michael Jackson rehearsals for his final tour. I'm told Sony, Universal and Fox are in negotiations, but the price keeps going up and up. $50 million is where it started, I heard. As soon as executives involved in organizing Michael Jackson's 50-night schedule of shows at London's O2 arena learned of the performers death, they met at Staples Center in Los Angeles and secured all of the rehearsal footage which Jackson had done there, according to news reports. Randy Phillips, president and CEO of AEG Live, ghoulishly boasted to The Associated Press he had "more than 100 hours of footage that could be turned into live albums, a movie and a pay-per-view special. He was our partner in life and now he's our partner in death." Phillips claimed the production budget for the shows reached $25 million, which also covered 3-D "mini-movies" of Thriller and Earth Song.
